Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland stressed: Ottawa “does not deal with diplomatic attacks” and does not consider them a useful means of doing trade. On the same day, European Commission spokesperson Margaritis Schinas confirmed: The European Union “fully supports” the joint declaration of the G7 summit in Canada. He also announced: The European Union will continue to defend the multilateral trading system based on the principles of the WTO.
