Praveen/Serena qualify for Top 16 at 2024 Canadian Open

Badminton News: Indonesia’s new professional mixed doubles pair, Praveen Jordan/Serena Kani, got off to a flying start at the Canada Open World Tour Super 500 tournament after successfully defeating Israel’s representatives, Misha Zilberman/Svetlana Zilberman in the round of 16.

Seeded seventh, Praveen/Serena successfully defeated Misha Zilberman/Svetlana Zilberman in two straight games with identical scores 21-17 and 21-17, in a match that took place at the Markin MacPhail Centre, Calgary Canada on Thursday (4/7) morning WIB.

Then, in the round of 16 of the 2024 Canada Open on Friday (5/7) WIB, Praveen/Serena will face the representatives of the United States, Joshua Tuan/Audrey Chang, who in the previous match managed to bring home the mixed doubles of the host Canada, Austin Mao/Catherine Yunyi Pang, two fairly easy consecutive games with scores of 21-15 and 21-6 in just 17 minutes.

The 2024 Canadian Open will be Praveen/Serena’s first tournament as a pair after missing the US Open World Tour’s Super 300 tournament last week due to visa issues.

The only Red and White representatives to go to the United States, Praveen Jordan/Serena Kani, decided this week to withdraw from the US Open World Tour Super 300 competition because Praveen Jordan’s visa was refused by the local authorities.

This was stated directly by Serena, who said that applying for a new visa would not be enough to be able to fly to the United States. So they decided to withdraw from the tournament, whose total prize pool was $210,000, or about 3.3 billion rupees.

“Jordan’s US visa was rejected. Then we finally applied again and finally it was approved. But since we had to wait for the visa, which takes 2-4 days, we just received a new notification. ‘You can take it today.’,” Serena told Djarum Badminton on Tuesday (25/6).

“So we don’t think we’re in a hurry. The game has already started, but the journey is also long,” Serena added.
