Jakarta – Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) chaired the 26th ASEAN-People’s Republic of China (PRC) Summit, at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Jakarta, on Wednesday (06/09/2023) morning.

At the meeting attended by Chinese Premier Li Qiang, President Jokowi stressed the importance of trust in realizing mutually beneficial practical cooperation between ASEAN and China.

β€œIt is this concrete trust and cooperation that can be a positive force for regional stability and peace,” the President said.

The president said China is one of four ASEAN dialogue partners with comprehensive strategic partner status.

“This year marks the 20th anniversary of China’s joining the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation. [Traktat Persahabatan dan Kerja Sama]. We must interpret all of this by achieving concrete and mutually beneficial cooperation, where this can only be done if we have mutual trust which of course must be built and maintained by all parties,” he said.

Meanwhile, Premier Li Qiang said in his speech that over the past ten years, China and ASEAN have developed strength, worked hand in hand and contributed to each other’s success.

“In the face of unprecedented major changes over the past century, we have taken the right path of establishing long-standing good relations and mutual progress and prosperity,” Premier Li Qiang said.

In addition, Premier Li Qiang said China-ASEAN cooperation has developed rapidly, mainly because the two sides have a deep understanding of existing difficulties, continue to strive for peace, have strong development aspirations and taking concrete steps to safeguard the region. stability.
