Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesian President Joko Widodo is encouraging the strengthening of economic cooperation between Indonesia and Canada, as part of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries this year.
President Jokowi made this known during a bilateral meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Elmau, Germany, Monday (27/6), according to a press release received in Jakarta early Tuesday Morning.
“This year we commemorate 70 years of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Canada. Indonesia and Canada must continue to apply pressure spirit cooperation, spirit collaboration and spirit multilateralism in the face of current global challenges,” President Jokowi said.
Therefore, in order to continue strengthening economic cooperation, President Jokowi is pushing for the completion of the ICA-CEPA negotiations in 2023, which will provide a positive signal for the Indonesian and Canadian business community.
On this occasion, President Jokowi also expressed his appreciation for Canada's full support for Indonesia's presidency of the G20.
Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi and Indonesian Ambassador to Germany Arif Havas Oegroseno also accompanied President Jokowi during the bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Trudeau.
