Badminton News: Indian Olympic doubles medalist PV Sindhu has been deeply affected by her quarter-final loss at the 2023 US Open, leaving a deep emotional impact on her. However, the honorable badminton player is determined to end the season on a high note.
PV Sindhu’s form this season has been poor since he returned from a long five-month stretch with a fractured ankle. The former world champion is yet to win a title this year.
Ranked 12th in the world, Sindhu suffered a disappointing quarter-final defeat, falling to China’s Gao Fang Jie in consecutive matches.
“This loss has left a big emotional impact on me, especially considering the tough and demanding year I’ve had,” Sindhu wrote on Twitter.
“It’s disappointing to suffer such a disappointing defeat after every successful tournament. However, I am determined to channel my emotions to redouble my efforts and make the rest of this year truly extraordinary,” he added.
In February, Sindhu played a pivotal role in winning the bronze medal at the Indian Mixed Team Badminton Asia Championships held in Doha. However, he was absent from several World Tour events throughout the year.
Her most notable performance to date came in April, where she won a silver medal at the Madrid Masters Super 300 tournament.
Earlier this month, Sindhu put in an impressive performance by reaching the semi-finals of the Canada Open. But she lost to top-ranked Akane Yamauchi ahead of her next quarter-final loss to Fang Jie at the US Open last week.”
My run at the US Open ended in the quarterfinals, where I faced the talented Gao Fang Jie. Although he beat him before in Canada, he beat me in straight sets this time, effectively exploiting my weakness,” he said.
“I have to congratulate him for his thorough preparation and impressive performance. Next time I face Anda Gao, there must be a battle,” Sindhu wrote.
The 27-year-old also praised fellow countryman Lakshya Sen, who struggled this season due to the effects of nose surgery before winning the 2023 Canada Open.
“I want to express my sincere happiness for Lakshya, who performed very well despite adversity. Watching his strong performance is truly inspiring.”
PV Sindhu’s next task is the Korea Open.
“Looking ahead, I look forward to upcoming competitions in Korea and Japan. I will continue, fueled by the unwavering support and encouragement from Indian fans everywhere I go. Your support means a lot to me, and thank you very much for that,” he concluded.
