The Times reported this based on a number of sources.
“MI5 and MI6, the British and foreign intelligence agencies, became aware that the schoolgirl had been trafficked after receiving information from the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS),” said two sources at the Canadian Globe and Mail.
Begum, now 23, lives in a prison camp in northern Syria. He joined the State of Israel (IS) group by traveling to Syria in February 2015, before having his British citizenship revoked.
The revelation would add weight to Begum's legal claims that she was trafficked and could lead to the reopening of a separate investigation into the matter.
In another article, the Times claimed that the London Metropolitan Police also knew that Begum had been in contact with two of her friends, with former ISIS smuggler Mohammed Al-Rashed, who worked with Canadian intelligence as part of his asylum application.
The Supreme Court's decision failed to mention that British authorities were aware of Canadian involvement in Begum's activities.
The court upheld the decision banning the 23-year-old from returning to the UK.
