“If necessary and the situation becomes increasingly dangerous, the government should temporarily issue a travel warning for Indonesian citizens until the riots in France subside. This is to protect the safety of our own citizens” , Puan said in a written statement, quoted Wednesday (5/7/2023).
Indeed, at least seven countries have issued travel warnings to France, including the United Kingdom, the United States, Saudi Arabia, Canada, Australia, Scotland and Iran.
In addition, he wants the government, through the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in France, to continue monitoring the condition of Indonesian citizens.
Puan said she was worried about the growing unrest in France.
“The safety of Indonesian citizens in France must be a top priority. The government must give guarantees that our fellow citizens are not affected by the unrest in France which continues to spread,” he said.
According to data from the Indonesian Embassy, the number of Indonesian citizens in France has reached 4,000 and are spread over several cities. Therefore, Puan asked the Indonesian Embassy to continue providing them, especially those close to the scene of the riots.
“Don’t let Indonesian citizens whose homes are affected by the riots find it difficult to support themselves,” said PDI politician Perjuangan (PDIP).
Puan also asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemenlu) to continue to monitor the situation and make diplomatic efforts with the French government. He called on Indonesian citizens in France to remain vigilant.
“Protect yourself, don’t travel unless it’s urgent. Wait until the situation in France is favorable,” he said.
