Jakarta (ANTARA) – Canadian national team basketball player and NBA New York Knicks player RJ Barret was amazed by the enthusiasm of the spectators who attended his team's first match against France in the World Cup FIBA World 2023 at the Indonesian Gelora Bung Karno Arena, Jakarta. , Friday (8/25).
During the match which ended in a crushing 95-65 victory for Canada over France, the number of spectators present at the sports arena inaugurated in early August was 12,091 people.
“It's very cool. “There were a lot of fans, there was a lot of encouragement,” said RJ Barret at the Indonesia Arena, Saturday (26/8).
In a game involving 10 NBA players, seven from Canada and three from France, the crowd at the Indonesia Arena cheered enthusiastically when they saw the actions of their favorite star players, from lay-ups to blocks to dunks.
Besides the cheers from the audience, the 1.95 meter tall basketball player also praised the entire facilities of the Indonesia Arena, which has a capacity of 16,000 spectators.
“It’s good (Indonesia Arena). I really like. All good. We have several training grounds and changing rooms. “They did a very good job,” congratulated RJ Barrett.
On the same occasion, Barret also commented on his national teammate Dillon Brooks, who was cheered by the Indonesia Arena crowd every time he carried the ball against France.

According to him, it was unique because at the same time, the audience at the Indonesia Arena was also applauding the Houston Rockets basketball player by shouting “MVP” or best player.
“It was funny how, as soon as the match started, everyone started “booing” Dillon. Finally, they then shouted MVP. So that was cool to see,” Barrett said.
Furthermore, the 23-year-old basketball player considers Indonesia a very pleasant country to stroll around peacefully due to the numerous shopping centers he comes across.
“It's very cool. Lots of malls. Lots of malls here, lots of things. Walking around and seeing new things is already pretty fun,” Barret said.
RJ Barret will play his team's second match at the 2023 FIBA World Cup against Lebanon on Sunday at 4:45 p.m. WIB.
