A bank robbery has occurred in the town of Saanich, Victoria, CanadaTuesday (6/28) local time.
A shootout broke out during the robbery, killing two perpetrators and injuring six police officers.
As quoted from AFPLocal police said in a statement that two gunmen entered a bank in a town with a population of 114,000 near British Columbia on Tuesday (6/28) afternoon at around 11 a.m. local time.
“A number of police officers responded to the scene and confronted the gunmen who opened fire on the police. Two suspects were shot dead by police and died instantly,” a statement from local police said. .
Police added that no bank employees or other residents were victims of the shooting and robbery at the Canadian bank.
Following the incident, police immediately evacuated buildings around the bank as there were suspected explosives at the scene.
Police are still looking for a suspect who may have escaped after the robbery at the Canadian bank.
“This incident is still ongoing with a heavy police presence in the area,” Saanich Police Chief Dean Duthie said at a news conference.
“It is very difficult because some of our members are still hospitalized with serious injuries,” he added.
Duthie said on Tuesday (6/28) afternoon that three officers had to undergo surgery, while the other three were released from hospital.
