Canada started well with Simmonds scoring a goal at 3:48 of the game and the team led 12-0 at halftime.
In the second game, the two teams tied the score, with Olympic veteran Wardley scoring a goal to extend Canada’s lead to 17-7.

Fiji, seeded sixth in the tournament, refused to give up and Laisana Likuseva scored in extra time before Ripi Ulunisou converted to seal the victory.
Canada will face top-ranked New Zealand on Sunday before finishing its group play against 12th-ranked China on Monday.
