Badminton News: 19-year-old badminton player from Chennai, Sankar Muthusamy looked impressive in the US Open Super 300 tournament in Council Bluffs, USA.
Sankar, the junior world championship silver medalist, won both of his qualifying matches to secure a spot in the men’s singles main draw.
In his first match, Sankar Muthusamy defeated Davi Silva of Brazil with a score of 21-17, 21-11. He followed that up with another convincing win over Canadian BR Sankeerth, winning 21-11, 21-17. The win showcased his skill and determination as he navigated the tournament.
Sankar, currently ranked 80th in the world, is in his first season on the senior circuit. In the main draw, he will face Irish opponent Nhat Nguyen, adding even more excitement to his campaign.
On the other hand, former Commonwealth Games champion Parupalli Kashyap faces an unfortunate turn of events. Kashyap withdrew from his second match against Japan’s Koo Takahashi, trailing 21-23, 7-11. However, he started the tournament on a high note with victory over England’s Rohan Midha, winning 21-19, 21-17 in his opener.
These developments highlight the competitive nature of the US Open Super 300 badminton tournament and the determination of young talents like Sankar to make their mark on the senior circuit.
The men’s doubles duo of Krishna Prasad Garaga/Vishnuvardhan Goud Panjala couldn’t make it past the first round of the main draw, however, losing 14-21 14-21 to Chinese Taipei’s Lin Yu Chieh/Su Li Wei.
