South Sumatra Province has completed at least 12 stages of the RPPEG preparation process and is moving towards several stages of the final stage, where the first consultation activity on the status of preparation of the RPPEG document of the South Sumatra with the PKEG management team, the General Directorate. The purpose of this public consultation is to socialize the final draft of the RPPEG of South Sumatra Province, as well as to obtain inputs and suggestions from parties of South Sumatra Province in the preparation of programs, activities and objectives for the RPPEG of the province of South Sumatra. .
In addition, the forum also agreed on strategies, policy directions, programs, activities and targets in the RPPEG of South Sumatra Province as an initial process in the commitment to implement a sustainable peat management. The activity was opened by Environmental Damage Control and Maintenance Manager, Drs. Wilman SH, MH, representing the Head of the Department of Environment and Lands (DLHP) of South Sumatra Province.
Wilman said the South Sumatra RPPEG document had been prepared for some time, the last of which covered all discussions, including policy and programmatic strategies. On that day, a public consultation was held to receive inputs and suggestions from parties regarding the content or contents of the South Sumatra Province RPPEG document. Referring to Permen LHK No. 60 of 2019 regarding procedures for the development, establishment and modification of peat ecosystem protection and management plans (RPPEG), one of the principles in the preparation of the RPPEG document is participatory involving the parties.
He added that this public consultation was a forum to engage stakeholders in the RPPEG development process. The preparation of the RPPEG document was supported by the Land4Lives project, which is a collaboration between the Government of Indonesia through the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas and the Government of Canada through Business World Championships Canada (AMC). In the province of South Sumatra, Land4Lives implemented by World Agroforestry (ICRAF) Indonesia, provides technical support to strengthen policies that will become a reference in interventions or activities aimed at improving the management of peat and its ecosystem.
