Queen Elizabeth II died on September 8 at her residence at Balmoral Castle, Scotland. His son, King Charles III, then ascended the throne, taking over as head of state in England, Canada and other Commonwealth countries.
The funeral was the first in Britain since that of Winston Churchill in 1965 and one of the most significant events in modern British history. The bell rings 96 times, one minute at a time for each year of Elizabeth’s life, until the service.
A total of 142 members of the Royal Navy respectfully pulled the carriage carrying the Queen’s flag-draped coffin to Westminster Abbey. At the church, around 2,000 people, including world leaders and medical professionals, mourned the death of the late queen.
