Sergio Perez won’t attend the conference, here’s the reason

F1 News: Sergio Perez will not attend the Austrian F1 GP conference. Because the Red Bull Racing driver was not in good health.

The Mexican rider did not make it to the Red Bull Ring on Thursday to take a rest day and ensure he is fully healthy for Friday. Although the exact nature of Sergio Perez’s illness has not been revealed, there is nothing from Red Bull to suggest his participation in opening practice and qualifying is in doubt.

If Perez is unable to drive on Friday, Red Bull has ex-McLaren driver Daniel Ricciardo as a back-up in his back-up role. Perez is 69 points behind championship leader and team-mate Max Verstappen, who earned his fourth straight win and sixth victory in the last eight races in Canada.

Ahead of this weekend’s race in Austria, Perez admits he needs to “step up” after three tough races. “For me, I will focus on the track because I know how important it is for me to have a consistent and really paying weekend, I know I can do it,” he said.

“The weather seems to be tough and it’s the Sprint weekend, so time spent in the car for set-up will be minimal and critical, we have to make the most of every moment of preparation.

“I had a great time last Sprint weekend in Baku and it was a very successful time but on a very different circuit. I wanted to achieve the same thing again, but I knew I had to step up to achieve this,” he added.
