Indonesian Foreign Ministry director for the protection of Indonesian citizens, Judha Nugraha, said wildfires had affected several regions of Canada, including Yellowknife and Kelowna.
He said Canadian authorities declared a state of emergency after the wildfire and the Indonesian Consulate General in Vancouver continues to monitor the disaster so far.
“According to data from the Consulate General of Indonesia in Vancouver, there are currently 28 Indonesian citizens living in Kelowna, the majority are students. Meanwhile, in Yellowknife, no Indonesian citizens live in the area,” he said. -he declares.
Moreover, he explained that currently, no Indonesian citizens have been declared victims of the forest fires in Canada.
“So far, no Indonesian citizen has been a victim of the fire,” he said, interviewed by Bisnis, Saturday (8/19/2023).
However, he explained that in anticipation of a escalation of the situation, the Indonesian Consulate General in Vancouver, together with Indonesian student groups and Indonesian community groups in Kelowna, organized the evacuation process.
“Evacuation destinations include Wisma Indonesia in Vancouver, the City of Kelowna Evacuation Center and several towns around Kelowna,” he added.
Then, he pointed out that the Indonesian Embassy in Ottawa, the Indonesian Consulate in Vancouver and the Indonesian Consulate in Toronto had appealed to Indonesian citizens to be extra vigilant.
“Prepare respiratory protective equipment and follow the advice and instructions of local authorities. Call the nearest RI representative hotline immediately if you need assistance,” he concluded.
