Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – Netflix’s crackdown on sharing passwords or password began rolling out to customers in the United States (US). According to the new rules, subscribers in the United States must remove other people from their Netflix account or pay $7.99 per month or around Rp118,000 for additional charges for members who do not live in the same household as the maid.
“Your Netflix account is for you and the people you live with, your home,” reads an email shared with Netflix subscribers in the United States. CNNWednesday (24/5/2023).
Netflix had previously turned a blind eye to the password-sharing phenomenon, as it was seen as driving the company’s growth. It’s not until 2022 that Netflix will firmly crack down on password sharing.
It is estimated that there are over 100 million households worldwide sharing accounts. The company began restricting password sharing in several countries earlier this year, including Canada, New Zealand, Portugal and Spain. Similar policies will also be rolled out to global markets in the coming weeks and months.
Netflix believes that cracking down on the password-sharing phenomenon will benefit Netflix’s long-term growth as a company and its financial health.
