According to CBC News, the story began with a report of a drive-by shooting. The security guard was shot in the upper chest and was unconscious when police arrived. The security guard was then rushed to hospital for surgery.
Police said the shooting occurred on Tuesday morning, May 7, 2024. Following the incident, the entrance to the luxury real estate district in Toronto, Canada, was blocked by police officers and there was a heavy police presence in the area throughout the morning.
It is still unclear whether Drake was at his residence or not. However, police have reached out to the rapper’s team to cooperate with the investigation.
It is known that the security camera video that recorded the incident has been recovered. Police will collect more surveillance footage as they continue their investigation.
Richie Lai, a neighbor of Drake’s who also lives in the neighborhood, said five to 10 shots were fired during the shooting. Shortly after, the sound of an ambulance was heard.
“I don’t know if I heard what I heard, and then maybe five or 10 minutes later I heard (ambulance) sirens,” Richie Lai was quoted as saying by CBC on Wednesday, May 8, 2024.
Meanwhile, Drake is currently involved in a serious feud with several other musicians. One of them is with Californian rapper Kendrick Lamar.
They have both released several songs hurling baseless accusations and insults at each other. This can also be seen on the cover of Kendrick Lamar’s latest diss song, titled “Not Like Us,” which features a satellite image of Drake’s house with a number of red location markers.
