Small plane crash in Canada, 6 people killed

A small plane crashed in Kananaskis, a mountainous area west of Calgary, Canada. Six people died as a result of the incident.

Reported by Reuters on Sunday (30/7/2023), the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) said the plane left Springbank Airport near Calgary on Friday evening, heading to Salmon Arm, Columbia. British. The plane had 5 passengers and a pilot.

RCMP Staff Sergeant Ryan Singleton said the plane lost contact around 9:30 p.m. local time. Shortly after the plane was reported overdue, a search was launched by a Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) squadron based in Winnipeg.

Then the squadron found the crash site. Officers, with the assistance of Alberta Parks Mountain Rescue, searched for survivors. However, all six people on board the plane died.

The RCMP has not released the names of the victims. Singleton said the Transportation Safety Board of Canada is investigating the crash.

“Recovering the bodies of the pilot and passengers was very difficult due to the difficult terrain. However, all six bodies were found,” Singleton said.
