Stroll has what it takes to be world champion

F1 News: Lance Stroll has the potential to win the world title. This was revealed by veteran Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso.

Alonso said he has known Stroll for over a decade, having met him during his time at Ferrari over a decade ago. He was also friends with Canadian Dad and Aston Martin team owner Lawrence Stroll for “many years”.

“I have known Lance for 11 years. We met in 2012 when I was at Ferrari – he was at the Ferrari Academy. And I’ve known his father, Lawrence, for many years. He is my best friend. I’ve been to his house in Canada several times, played various sports and spent time together,” he said.

The former Ferrari driver said Stroll’s development as a driver had been “special” to watch, having been an asset to Aston Martin as a qualified young driver. He noted that Stroll was very strong in the wet, which earned him some of his most impressive performances, such as his pole position at the 2020 Turkish Grand Prix.

“At Lance, the team has very young, very talented riders and has the possibility of becoming world champions. Watching him achieve that and play a part in it, whether behind the wheel or not, is going to be special to me.”

“He has pace and he has talent. He showed it time and time again, especially in the wet. I remember Lance taking pole position in Turkey and some of his great performances on the wet track; to perform at this level in difficult conditions, you have to have a special feeling with the car.
