“Iran’s women, daughters, grandmothers and allies…they have not been forgotten,” Trudeau said, standing in front of a white banner covered in dozens of red handprints. South China Morning PostSunday (10/30/2022).
Iran has been gripped by six weeks of protests that erupted when Mahsa Amini, 22, died in custody after being arrested for allegedly violating a strict dress code for women.
“We will be by your side. I will walk with you, I will hold your hand. We will continue to support this beautiful community, ”said Trudeau, before ending his speech by shouting Persian slogans, clenching his fist.
Trudeau’s wife, Sophie Grégoire, also joined the protests.
“I support you because when a woman’s rights are violated, it’s a disrespect for all women,” she said.
“And we will not leave the sisters,” he stressed.
