Tension, seconds of US and Chinese ships nearly collided in the South China Sea

Bisnis.comSOLO – Ship WE And China almost colliding in the South China Sea, luckily US Navy Captain Paul Mountford was ready to move.

China and the United States have recently returned to tensions in the South China Sea. According to Global News, tensions nearly arose during the joint Canada-US mission that has crossed the Taiwan Strait since May 25, 2023.

Apparently, a Chinese warship approached within 150 meters and appeared to want to ram the American destroyer USS Chung-Hoon.

Captain Paul Mountford then summoned the American ships and told them to move or there would be a collision.

The entire US crew on duty then asked the Chinese military to stay clear of the ship. Unfortunately, their warnings went unheeded.

As a result, Chung-Hoon’s ship gave way and decided to change course and slow down to prevent a major accident from occurring.

Mountford believes the incident was deliberately staged by the Chinese military to stir up trouble again with the United States.

“The fact that it was announced on the radio before it was done clearly shows that it was intentional,” he said.

As is known, the Chung-Hoon and Montreal ships sailed together in the South China Sea for nearly a week before entering the Taiwan Strait.

However, the Chinese target appears to be only Chung-Hoon as they did not attempt a similar maneuver on HMCS Montreal.

China reportedly previously informed the Canadian and American ships by radio that they were entering Chinese territory, even though the joint mission was taking place in internationally recognized waters.

“Hopefully this is an isolated incident that won’t happen again for us because we have international law on our side. These are international waters,” Mountford said.
