Jakarta –
PT Cipta Selera Murni Tbk (CSMI), as the Texas Chicken franchise holder, admits that they will close all their outlets in RI. Even though this franchise network has quite a long history in the country.
Texas Chicken itself was founded in 1952 by George W. Church in San Antonio, Texas, USA. Even so, in the beginning, this fast food restaurant was called Church Chicken, after the last name of the owner.
Then Church Chicken’s international expansion began in 1979. The company then established locations in Puerto Rico, Canada, Mexico and Indonesia and began operating as Texas Chicken.
In Indonesia, Texas Chicken is under the auspices of PT Cipta Selera Murni Tbk (CSMI). CSMI, one of the owners of the Texas Chicken brand, has been around since 1952, but this company was founded in 1983.
It is known that Texas Chicken opened its first restaurant in Indonesia from July 4, 1984 in Pasar Baru, Central Jakarta as Texas Fried Chicken. Then in 1993, this restaurant changed its name to Texas Chicken.
It doesn’t stop there, this restaurant chain is growing and starting to open new outlets outside of Jakarta. Call it Surabaya, Medan, Pekanbaru, Palembang, Pontianak, Banjarmasin, Bandung, Makasar, Manado and other cities.
Then based on notes detik.compart ownership of Texas Chicken was taken over by PT Quick Serve Indonesia (QSI) in 2018. Since then, there have been two different directions as franchisees of the restaurant.
QSI itself is a licensee for Texas Chicken and operates outlets in Java and Bali, while CSMI dominates outside those areas. Thanks to this, Texas Chicken can reach 51 outlets all over Indonesia.
But unfortunately, as CSMI’s financial situation continued to lose money, they eventually terminated the cooperation contract with Cajun Global LLC and could no longer use the brand.
For information, based on RTI data, it was found that the current CSMI controller is Lisa Muchtar. The name Lisa Muchtar holds the majority of shares with a total of 458,200,000 shares or 56.15%. The value of the share is 22,910,000,000 IDR.
Lisa Muchtar is a big investor who is also the daughter of Atang Latief, a well-known tycoon during the New Order era who was involved in the Bank Indonesia Liquidity Assistance (BLBI) case.
