Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Indonesia are in Group B Sudirman Cup 2023 with Thailand, Germany and Canada. Referring to strength on paper, Thailand will be the toughest opponent.
Indonesia, who are in the 3/4 seed list, have a better position than Thailand on paper. However, in terms of player material, Thailand clearly cannot be underestimated.
Thailand’s top men’s singles player Kunlavut Vitidsarn currently has a pretty flashy record ahead of Jonatan Christie and Anthony Ginting. Kunlavut lost 2-3 in their head-to-head against Jonatan but took a 3-2 lead against Ginting.
In the women’s singles sector, Ratchanok Intanon is also a figure with high flying hours. Ratchanok has an impressive record against Gregoria Mariska.
The Thai women’s doubles sector is also inhabited by the top 10 players in the area such as Jongkolphan Kititharakul / Rawinda Prajongjai. They will oppose fierce resistance to Apriyani Rahayu / Siti Fadia Silva who will probably be the spearhead of Indonesia in women’s doubles.
Meanwhile, in mixed doubles, Dechapol Puavaranukroh/Sapsiree Taerattanachai, who regularly occupy the mixed doubles elite on paper, will outrank the Indonesian representatives in that number.
Only the men’s doubles sector, which has a big chance, will be seized by Indonesia. As for the other four sectors, Indonesia had to fight hard against Thai players.
In the next Sudirman Cup, the top two teams will qualify for the quarter-finals. Because of this, Indonesia should also be wary of Germany and Canada, even though on paper Indonesia are superior in terms of team material.
