Jakarta (ANTARA News) – Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives Setya Novanto asked the Canadian Parliament to develop cooperation between parliaments.
“Interparliamentary cooperation must certainly also be developed by the two countries as part of strengthening bilateral relations. We, DPR RI for the period 2014-2019, are ready to continue the cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries which has been going well”, said Novanto during the visit of 11 senators from Canada, led by Raynell Andreychuk, at the DPR RI Building, Jakarta, Tuesday.
He added that cooperation between Indonesia and Canada in the trade field has been strengthened.
In 2013, the trade volume recorded between the two countries reached 2.4 billion US dollars.
“In the future, we hope that the value of trade between the two countries can continue to increase,” Novanto said.
He added that Canadian investments in the first quarter of 2014 reached US$261.6 million with 46 projects.
“An increase from 2013 which reached US$123.8 million for 25 projects. We hope that the value of Canadian investments in Indonesia can continue to increase,” said Novanto.
At the same time, in the maritime sector, Indonesia hopes that Canada can play a role in the development of the maritime sector.
“The cooperation that has been established with Canada concerns the areas of the fight against terrorism, transnational crime, law and human rights, education, aviation, livestock, agriculture, forestry and social culture,” Novanto said.
