“When I started the company, one of the things you’ll find there are other sub-operators, but they usually hire ex-Navy servicemen and you’re going to see a lot of 50-year-old guys white,” he told Teledyne Marina in a Zoom interview. .

On the other hand, Rush wanted to have a youth team. According to him, young people are more inspiring.

“I want our team to be younger, to be inspiring and I’m not going to inspire a 16 year old to pursue marine technology, but a 25 year old who is a subpilot or a rig operator or one of our engineers could be inspired,” he said.

“So we’re really trying to hire bright, driven, younger people, because we’re doing some really new things.”

Prior to the incident where the sub went missing, Rush actually made two trips to the wreck of the Titanic. The wreck itself lies at a depth of 12,500 feet at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. It is located approximately 370 miles off the coast of Canada.
