Tiktok develops content restriction feature for teens | Malang News Today | Malang Posco Media

Malang Posco Media – Short video sharing app TikTok is developing a tool that will allow parents to block their teens from accessing certain content on the platform.

Development of a parental controls feature is in its early stages and the app will consult with childcare, youth and civil society organizations to design the tool, TikTok said, Reuters reported on Friday ( 3/3). Parents can use the tool to block their teens from seeing content with certain words or hashtags.

Along with this, TikTok also announced a new feature to help users limit the time they spend on the app. Accounts belonging to users under the age of 18 are automatically deactivated for one hour per day and teenagers must enter an access code to continue using the application.

If a teen chooses to remove the daily limit and uses TikTok for more than 100 minutes per day, the app will display an alert asking them to set a time limit.

Now, parents can set a time limit for their teen’s TikTok usage, the Chinese company has said.

TikTok, which is owned by tech company ByteDance, has come under scrutiny around the world for its close ties to the Chinese government and concerns about protecting user data.

The app, hugely popular with young users, has been banned on government-owned phones in the United States, Canada and other countries for security reasons.

Like other social media apps, TikTok has also been criticized for not providing teens with enough protection to prevent access to inappropriate content.
