By vaccinating against rabies and installing a microchip on the dog, the animal’s data can be known and stored by the owner.
As many as 1,000 dogs in the Sanur Kaja village area of South Denpasar, Denpasar City, were fitted with microchips, Monday (10/09). The installation of this microchip also launches a village innovation program for dog welfare called Gochip Unified Digital Identity (GUDI) Innovation.
Denpasar City Agricultural Department head Anak Agung Bayu Brahmasta said that while other villages and subdistricts are still dealing with rabies, Sanur Kaja is already thinking about the welfare of dogs. In fact, he said, in Sanur Kaja, dog health data is receiving a lot of attention. According to him, although there was a case in Sanur Kaja, it turned out to be an external case. He hopes other villages or subdistricts will follow in Sanur Kauh’s footsteps.
This microchip is provided free of charge and constitutes a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a Canadian microchip company. One of the advantages obtained is being able to find lost dogs. “Through animal welfare, animals in our environment will definitely be healthy and people will feel safe and comfortable,” he said.
Meanwhile, Sanur Kaja Perbekel, I Made Sudana, said that this program was the first at the village or sub-district level in Indonesia. This program started with the village animal welfare regulation of 2017 and was implemented in 2018. The village regulation started with a case of dog bite that happened to a tourist and the village was invited to take responsibility for treatment in an international hospital. Then there was Unud’s Dharma program which was immediately accepted by the village of Sanur Kaja. “However, the village settlement is still manual and this microchip is for digital,” Soudana said.
His party has entered into a memorandum of understanding with a Canadian microchip company regarding the installation of this microchip. Installing this microchip has many benefits, such as recording the dog’s identity, including its breed, as well as the dog’s health history. “We also go door to door to homes for installation,” he added. This microchip can be installed on all dogs, but must be recommended by a veterinarian. He also added that this dog database will be kept secret from the village. The installation of these electronic chips began in September 2023 and now targets more than 200 dogs. “Issued only with factory authorization,” he said. Meanwhile, a resident, Made Sukayana, 70, welcomed this program because if he installed it himself, he could spend between IDR 300,000 and IDR 400,000. “If the dog goes missing, it can also be found and discovered. It’s a good program because it knows the medical history of the dog,” he added.

Microchips in animals are small devices that contain basic information that can show the identity of the animal. The information can then be used by veterinarians or authorized institutions. By installing identification in the form of an electronic chip on animals, including a dog, in the event of loss of the animal, it will be easier to find the owner of the animal.
Installation of the electronic chip is not complicated and can be done quickly. The tool is inserted only by regular injection and has no limit on the duration of use.
An electronic chip is implanted in a dog’s body precisely under the skin to mark it with a number that will allow its identification. Installing a microchip is not only helpful for pets when they run away from home or become lost, but can also be used as proof of ownership. 7 for example
