Jakarta –
Indonesian Commerce Minister Zulkifli Hasan revealed that there is an increase in trade in goods and services and investment flows between ASEAN member countries every year. This must be maintained and reinforced by a number of concrete measures.
In his keynote address at the ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (ABIS) 2023 held at the Sultan Hotel & Residence Jakarta, the PAN Chairman revealed 3 things that could be done to maintain the positive trend of trade and investment in ASEAN. First, expand the ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement or ATIGA.
“Ensuring it remains relevant, modern and more responsive to regional and global developments,” Zulhas said in his statement on Sunday (3/9/2023).
Secondly, it is necessary to review and improve a number of points in the ASEAN Plus One FTA.
“Complete ongoing negotiations with dialogue partners such as Canada as soon as possible, as well as explore new FTAs with strategic partners,” he continued.
Finally, start negotiations on the Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA) this year, which will become the basis for ASEAN’s digital economy cooperation.
