Malang Posco Media – The UK Parliament is planning to ban the installation of TikTok on all their mobile devices and networks for cybersecurity reasons.
“Following the government’s decision to ban TikTok from the government apparatus, the commission Communal room (Lower House) and House of Lords (The House of Lords) has ruled that TikTok will be blocked from the entire parliamentary apparatus and the wider parliamentary network,” a spokesman for the UK parliament said, as broadcast by Reuters on Wednesday (3/23).
The UK recently banned the installation of the TikTok app on government-owned phones, also for security reasons.
“Cybersecurity is Parliament’s top priority,” said a parliamentary spokesperson.
A TikTok spokesperson said the ban on installing TikTok on devices belonging to the UK parliament was “misguided” and based on a misunderstanding by the Chinese company.
“We are disappointed that, despite our requests, we have not had the opportunity to address the issue and have only asked to be assessed on the basis of the facts and treated on an equal footing with our competitors,” said TikTok.
A TikTok spokesperson said they are implementing plans to further protect user data in Europe, including storing UK user data in data centers in Europe as well as tightening privacy controls. data access to these data centers.
The UK is the latest country to ban TikTok on official devices, with the US, Belgium, Canada and the European Commission already having similar bans in place.
These countries fear that TikTok user data could fall into the hands of the Chinese government. ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, is headquartered in Beijing. (ntr/mpm)
