Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Thursday November 3, 2022 that he would not attend the G20 summit in Indonesia if Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin was present.
Zelensky told reporters after talks in Kyiv with the Greek president that he was invited to attend the G20 summit on November 15-16 by Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).
“My personal position and Ukraine’s position is that if the leadership of the Russian Federation participates, then Ukraine will not participate. We will see what happens,” Zelensky said as quoted by Channel News Asia on Friday. (4/10/2022).
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said earlier Thursday that he spoke to Jokowi by phone and discussed preparations for the G20 summit as well as the Black Sea grain deal.
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24. The war, now in its ninth month, has killed thousands, displaced millions and destroyed major cities.
Moscow described its actions as a special military operation.
So far, Russian President Vladimir Putin has yet to decide whether he will attend.
According to an article in the European Union media, Euractiv, Wednesday, November 2, 2022, President Vladimir Putin has not yet decided which senior officials he will send to Indonesia.
The Russian Embassy in Indonesia has also not yet announced the arrival of President Putin. However, President Joko Widodo announced that President Putin would attend.
