Using AI, researchers hope to find the family who owned the gold necklace found in the wreck of the Titanic

Liputan6.com, Jakarta A team has found a gold necklace that hadn’t been seen since the sinking of the Titanic in 1912. Recently it was found among the wreckage of the Titanic off the coast of North America. The discovery team hopes to track down the jewelry owner’s family using artificial intelligence (AI).

This was announced by Magellan, a UK-based deep-sea mapping company, which recently released a selection of digital scans showing the wreckage of the RMS Titanic in never-before-seen detail.

Following this news, the company explained how their stunning high-quality image shows a gold necklace made from the teeth of Megalodon, an extinct species of colossal shark.

Fans of the 1997 film Titanic will know that the fictional story involves a beautiful necklace known as the Heart of the Ocean. Who knows, maybe this recent discovery was a gift between two star-crossed lovers.

Richard Parkinson, CEO of Magellan, described the discovery as “astonishing, beautiful and amazing”.

“What is not widely understood is that the Titanic was split in two and there were 3 square miles of debris [8 kilometer persegi] between bow and stern,” Parkinson told ITV News.

“The team mapped the terrain in great detail, so we were able to pick out those details,” he added.

The project collected 16 terabytes of data detailing the location of the Titanic’s wreckage, including more than 715,000 images and 4k video footage.

They achieved this by sailing to the wreckage, about 700 kilometers (435 miles) off the east coast of Canada, then using a remote-controlled submarine to image the ocean floor at a depth of approximately 3,800 meters (12,500 feet) below the surface.
