The sanctions were imposed on 22 Iranians, including senior officials of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, senior officials in the judiciary, prison system and law enforcement.

Besides Iran, Canada has also imposed sanctions on Russia and Myanmar. The announced sanctions come as the world observes International Anti-Corruption Day and Human Rights Day on Friday.
Canada’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the sanctions were imposed on 33 senior or former Russian officials and six entities implicated in “systematic human rights abuses” against civilians protesting the invasion. of Ukraine by Russia.
Since Russia’s invasion on February 24, Canada has imposed sanctions on more than 1,500 individuals and entities from Russia, Ukraine and Belarus.
Sanctions against Myanmar targeted twelve individuals and three entities for committing offenses by allowing the junta to attack civilians and facilitating the transfer of arms to the regime.
Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly said Canada would never stop standing up for human rights.
