Football News: In the first match on Sunday (02/06) in Arlington, Canada won an important victory by beating Korea 3-0 (25-15, 25-12, 25-18) in the continuation of the VNL 2024. The victory secured their fifth victory in eight matches, keeping their hopes of qualifying for the Olympics alive.
Canada’s dominance was clear from the start of the match. They played with high intensity and efficient attacks, which made it difficult for Korea to develop their game.
Kiera Van Ryk and Alexa Gray were the stars of the victory, each scoring 13 points and leading the Canadian attack with an impressive performance.
On the Korean side, Jeong Jiyun and Lee Juah each contributed 6 points, but their efforts were not enough to match the opposing team’s strength.
Despite this victory and the addition of 1.85 points to the FIVB world rankings, Canada remains slightly behind the Netherlands in the Olympic qualification rankings.
The Netherlands, with 290.95 points, still occupy the last position in the qualification zone, while Canada has 288.74 points. This difference of more than two points is a challenge that must be overcome in the final week of the VNL 2024 preliminary stage.
This match is also an opportunity for Canada to show that it is ready to face the final week of the VNL preliminary phase which begins from June 11 to 16.
Eight national teams, including Canada, will be in action in Fukuoka, Japan, facing hosts Japan, France, Italy, Korea, the Netherlands, Serbia and the United States.
Meanwhile, eight other teams will compete in Hong Kong, including China, Brazil, Bulgaria, Dominican Republic, Germany, Poland, Thailand and Turkey.
