War in Ukraine becomes more uncertain, Belarus joins Russia

TIMESINDONESIA, JAKARTA – Until the 230th day of the war in Ukraine becomes increasingly uncertain, Belarusian troops are now even joining the Russian army. Meanwhile, the G7 countries and NATO will continue to support Ukraine for as long as necessary.

Belarusian troops, neighboring Ukraine, are now advancing alongside Russian troops on the orders of President Alexander Lukashenko near the Ukrainian border.

Alexander Lukashenko, as reported by France24 citing Belarusian news agency Belta, said Belarus and Russia would deploy a joint military task force in response to what he called rising tensions on the country’s western border. .

Lukashenko insisted the two countries would deploy a regional military group and began joining forces two days ago after the explosion on the Russian bridge to Crimea.

However, as Al Arabia reports, the group of Belarusian regional troops deployed with Russian troops is a “purely defensive” group aimed at defending the borders of the former Soviet republic closely linked to Russia.

“Once again, we emphasize that the military tasks in the region are purely defensive. All activities carried out at this time are aimed at providing an adequate response to actions near our borders,” Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor said. Khrenin, in a statement.

Viktor Khrenin also urged Ukraine not to provoke him. “Belarus has no intention of going to war with its neighbors and will not do so unless there is an inappropriate gesture on their part,” he said.

Meanwhile, in a virtual emergency meeting on Tuesday (11/10/2022), as reported by the BBC, the G7 countries and NATO will continue to support Ukraine militarily and humanitarianally.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has asked the G7 for an international surveillance mission to the Belarusian border after the arrival of a “train” of Russian troops in the neighboring country.

“Russia is trying to drag Belarus directly into this war, playing provocations that we are allegedly preparing an attack on Belarus,” Zelensky said.

The G7 countries are made up of the seven largest developed economies, namely Canada, France, Italy, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States.

China is not included because it is not considered a developed economy like other countries. Russia was part of the group, but was expelled following its annexation of Crimea in 2014.

Leaders of the wealthy G7 group of countries said they would support Ukraine for as long as needed after it was hit by missiles by Russia on Monday.

At least 19 Ukrainian civilians and dozens more were injured when Russia rained rain on Ukrainian towns, including parts of Ukraine’s capital, central Kyiv.

Even the attacks continued until Tuesday and civilians were advised to stay in shelters during the airstrikes.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said the attack was in retaliation for an attack on the main bridge linking Russia with occupied Crimea. Putin blamed Ukraine, although there is no evidence so far that Ukraine attacked the bridge.
