JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Canadian Prime Minister (PM) Justin Trudeau held a bilateral meeting with President Joko Widodo at Merdeka Palace on Tuesday (05/09/2023).

During the meeting, Prime Minister Justin praised President Jokowi and Indonesia’s leadership in international organizations.

One of them, Prime Minister Justin, said President Jokowi had set high standards when holding the G20 summit in 2022.

“You have set very high standards for the success of the G20. But I am very confident in your leadership, Joko and Indonesia,” Prime Minister Justin told Jokowi.

Prime Minister Justin’s arrival in Indonesia this time was to attend the 43rd ASEAN High-Level Conference (Summit).

During the event which will be held for three days, from September 5 to 7, 2023, Canada is one of the partner countries.

Therefore, Prime Minister Justin said that he wants to discuss various geopolitical issues with ASEAN on Wednesday (06/09/2023) tomorrow.

Prime Minister Justin felt interested because he saw that Indonesia had shown its ability to open up to the world.

“We cannot forget how competently you led the G20 last year in very difficult times. But Indonesia has really shown its ability to open up to the world and confront a number of major problems “, he explained.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Justin discussed the strategic cooperation between ASEAN and Canada which will be launched next Wednesday.

According to him, this program is very important for both parties.

“And Indonesia’s leadership in economic growth is extraordinary,” he said.

Meanwhile, regarding bilateral relations between Indonesia and Canada, Prime Minister Justin believes that there is still much to be done.
