Confidence regained.

This is what the United States women’s national team looks like as it now heads south to San Diego for the CONCACAF Gold Cup W semifinals. There, the United States will face its neighbor and rival Canada at Snapdragon Stadium on Wednesday evening for a place in the final.

It took just a few minutes in the USWNT’s 3-0 quarterfinal win over Colombia to look dangerous on offense, and in the 10th minute, Alex Morgan kicked a penalty. In the 22nd minute, the USWNT scored twice and scored their third before the halftime whistle.

It was also a bright sign for the United States that some of the young hopefuls of the future stepped up to help secure victory. 23-year-old center back Naomi Girma sent a free kick 50 yards into the box which was deflected to 23-year-old left back Jenna Nighswonger, who placed it in the bottom right corner. And then it was Jaedyn Shaw, 19, who had the determination and energy to be the first to throw the ball on a cross through the middle to score.

Today, the United States faces a formidable adversary, Canada. The Reds have scored 14 goals in four games and have not allowed a single goal of their own. Adriana Leon leads all scorers in the competition with five goals and a team full of in-form players.

All of this sets up what should be an exciting match between the United States and Canada and The Sporting News is here to bring you all the information you need to follow the match.

USA vs. Canada Lineups and Team News

USWNT interim coach Twila Kilgore has some important decisions to make ahead of Wednesday night’s game. Kilgore made six changes after the loss to Mexico, bringing Nighswonger, Shaw, Alex Morgan, Korbin Albert, Naomi Girma and Tierna Davidson in programming.

On paper, it would make sense to give back to people like Sophie Black-smith, Pink LavelleAnd Abby Dahlkemper among other things to line up against a better quality opponent. But the most recent XI has got the team to the semi-finals, and Kilgore could be forgiven for putting his faith in them again.

The United States predicted the starting lineup (4-3-3) from right to left: Naeher (GK) — Fox, Girma, Dahlkemper, Davidson — Horan (C), Coffey, Lavelle — Rodman, Smith, Shaw.

American bench: To be determined

Canada needed overtime to eliminate Costa Rica in the quarterfinals, meaning tired legs could have an impact here. Star forward Jordan Huitema only played 45 minutes in the win, so if he’s fit he should be good to go. Adriana Leon was also substituted just moments after scoring the winning goal, to save her legs for the semi-finals.

Canada predicted the starting formation (3-4-3) from right to left: Sheridan (GK) — Zadorsky, Gilles, Buchanan — Lawrence, Quinn, Fleming (C), Carle — Leon, Huitema, Lacasse
