Although Google has expanded the availability of its Google Bard service to 180 countries, some countries in the region have yet to experience this ChatGPT competitor.
The countries that couldn’t try Google Bard are European Union countries and Canada. According to speculation, strict privacy regulations and fears of AI abuse are the reasons for Google’s decision not to feature Bard in these countries.
Before getting into the reasons why Google has not introduced Bard in the European Union and Canada, it is important to know what Google Bard is.
To quote Gizchina, Friday (5/19/2023), Google Bard is a degenerative AI service developed by Google to improve user experience through various Google services and products. The services in question include Google Search, Workspace, Photos and Android.
The presence of Bard in 180 countries but its absence in the countries of the European Union and in Canada is surprising. The main reason is probably due to the strict laws governing privacy issues in some of these regions, especially in Europe where there is the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) law.
In addition, there are concerns about the potential for abuse artificial intelligence aka AI which can bring danger also influenced Google’s decision.
