Activists are calling for a boycott of Canadian fashion retailer Zara following a new promotional campaign seen as mocking the deaths of children in Gaza. Footage shared on social media shows pro-Palestinian protesters demonstrating outside a store in Canada while waving flags.
In a video titled “Boycott Zara!” They should be ashamed! “, a Montreal store was seen targeted by graffiti, where the “Zara” brand was crossed out and replaced by the words “Gaza” and the message “Free Palestine”.
In another video, an activist highlights Zara's latest ad campaign, shared via Instagram and then removed by the major fashion brand after receiving criticism. In the ad, we see a model wearing a black jacket standing in front of a white background among rubble and models wrapped in white fabric.
“It's the most disgusting collection I've ever seen… They're laughing at us and they're laughing at the children who were killed and our homes that were destroyed,” the activist said, calling for a boycott of the brand.
In response, Zara removed its ad and released a statement: “Having listened to the feedback regarding the latest Zara Atelier campaign, we would like to share the following with our customers.
Zara said the shoot was “planned since July and photographed in September”, showing models with unfinished sculptures in a workshop to “present the clothes in an artistic context”.
“Unfortunately, some customers were offended by these images, which have now been removed, and saw them as something very different from what was intended when they were created. Zara regrets this misunderstanding and we reiterate our deep respect for all world”, indicates the official Zara press release. .
