Los Angeles, Beritasatu.com– Usually, the studio will try to keep big movies away from each other. After all, no one will win if two movie releases with box office goals are forced to compete for ticket revenue.

However, this is what will happen in Indonesia on July 19, 2023 and in the United States on July 21, 2023 when the two great films “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” will be released in theaters on the same day.

This situation happened 15 years ago involving the same two major studios, Universal and Warner Bros. But at that time, the director “Oppenheimer” was on the side of Warner Bros for the film “The Dark Knight” which won $ 1 billion worldwide against “Mamma Mia!” which raised US$609 million.

What will definitely get excited are moviegoers. Because it is possible that the public will spend the whole day at the cinema to watch these two films immediately.

Director Greta Gerwig’s ‘Barbie’, Starring Margot Robbie in the Title Role, Was Predictable Box Office Pro could be a winner with an $80 million opening weekend in the United States and Canada.

Meanwhile, director Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” biopic starring actor Cillian Murphy is expected to be in second place with an expected debut between $40 million and $57 million.

But keep in mind that Oppenheimer’s films are in high demand overseas. In Indonesian cinemas, this film, which was shown in IMAX theaters, was filled with spectators. In addition, Wednesday July 19 coincides with a national holiday.

Nolan recently spoke to Variety at the London premiere of “Oppenheimer” and said, “It’s a 180-page script and it’s an $180 million movie.”

Although not an official budget, it appears to be much more expensive than the original estimate of $100 million. On the other hand, Warner Bros. reportedly spent US$100 million on “Barbie”.

But if “Oppenheimer” costs $180 million, it will need a lot of help from overseas audiences to break even.
