5 unique facts about Icon of the Seas, the world’s largest cruise ship set to sail next year

WASHINGTON – With the moniker of the giant of the ocean, Icon of the Seas, the cruise ship owned by Royal Caribbean International is set to become cruise ship the largest in the world when commissioned in early 2024. In June 2023, the ship begins the first phase of sea trials.

The vessel is currently completing its final stages of construction at a shipyard in Finland. It will be launched in open water in October this year.

1. Accommodates 5,610 passengers and 2,350 crew

Icon of the Seas is a colossus 365 meters (nearly 1,200 feet) long and weighing approximately 250,800 tons. In comparison, it’s like trying to float the two CN towers, one of Canada’s skyscrapers, to stay afloat.

When sailing in Caribbean waters in January 2024, the ship will accommodate approximately 5,610 passengers and 2,350 crew.

2. The largest water park

The ship has the world’s largest water park at sea. Dubbed Category 6, it will feature six world-record-breaking water slides.

Tourists can also relax in seven other swimming pools.
