Bisnis.comJAKARTA – The Indonesian badminton team is ready to play the opening match of the Sudirman Cup 2023.
The Indonesian badminton team will face Canada in Group B on Monday (15/5/2023) at 10:00 a.m. local time. Match at the Indoor Arena, Suzhou Olympic Sports Center Complex, Suzhou, China.
After winning the Sudirman Cup in the first edition in 1989 in Jakarta, until the 17th edition in Vantaa, Finland 2021, Indonesia never won again. Unsurprisingly, the long wait of 34 years wants to end at the 18th edition of the event this time.
Indonesian Sudirman Cup team manager Armand Darmadji says Fajar Alfian and the team are serious about preparing for the third training day on Sunday (14/5/2023). Nearly three hours of training in the training hall of the Olympic Sports Center in Suzhou was essential to face Canada.
“Tomorrow’s game against Canada is the first test for us. I hope this last practice will be useful in preparing for tomorrow’s game,” he said.
Armand also said that against Canada all players had to be brave. There should be no compassion for the adversary. Players are also reminded to never underestimate their opponents.
“It’s an important party that will determine the fate of the Indonesian team’s next trip. So never underestimate your opponent. If you have to give them zero, give them zero,” he said.
According to the rules, the determination of the names of the players who will line up against Canada must be submitted no later than four hours before the game. With Indonesia’s schedule against Canada scheduled to take place on Monday (15/5) at 10:00 a.m. local time, the list of names for the Garuda team must be submitted to the committee no later than 6:00 a.m.
The will to face Canada was also felt in this exercise. According to mixed doubles coach Amon Sunaryo, training on day three will be maximized. This should solidify the final preparations before the game against Canada.
“All the players are ready to deploy. This exercise is also for the preparation to be more solid,” Amon said.

“Training has to be enthusiastic and keep getting more and more enthusiastic. If I’m selected, of course, I’m fully ready to bring points for Indonesia. At the same time, it proves that I deserve to be in the Sudirman Cup squad,” said Ribka, who is paired with Lanny Tria Mayasari.
Women’s singles player Putri Kusuma Wardani also said she was ready to appear as well. Certainly, the preparation is also good. It can devour the trainer’s portion optimally.
