Canada plans to implement isolation to prevent spread of monkeypox

Canada issued a travel advisory in light of rising cases of monkeypox, Tuesday (06/07/2022). Travelers to more than 24 countries, including Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States, are urged to take precautions and be warned of possible delays before returning to Canada if they become ill .

Exercising its Level 2 alert, the Public Health Agency of Canada tweeted that travelers could be subject to procedures aimed at limiting the spread of monkeypox, such as isolation, if they were infected.

“You may have limited access to timely health care and appropriate treatment when you become ill, and you may experience delays getting home,” he said.

According to a report from the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as of Tuesday (7/6), monkeypox cases worldwide have exceeded 1,000 cases and have occurred in 29 non-endemic countries.

Canada itself became the country with the fourth highest number of cases with 80 cases, behind Portugal, Spain and the United Kingdom.

The CDC also urges travelers to be aware of monkeypox by staying away from anyone who is sick or has symptoms. When it reaches its highest alert level, Level 3, the CDC will advise people not to travel.
