Canada and South Korea strengthen trade and cultural relations

This was conveyed by South Korea’s Ambassador to Canada, Lim Woongsoon, who detailed Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s travel plans to South Korea this week.

“Prime Minister Trudeau and South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol will sign a memorandum of understanding to expand trade in critical minerals and facilitate the participation of young people from both countries in national exchanges,” Lim said.

According to Lim, Canada is the right partner for his country in helping to develop Korea’s semiconductor and electric vehicle battery sectors with mineral supplies from Ottawa.

As loaded World NewsTuesday (16/5), Seoul is currently trying to reduce its dependence on China, which supplies about 80% of the country’s minerals, by switching to Ottawa.

“Canada can be an excellent choice for Korean companies to diversify their supply of essential minerals,” he added.

Apart from that, apart from trade, the two countries will expand their access to allow young people from Canada and South Korea to do internships or work there, to study the respective cultures of the two great countries.

Trudeau is expected to arrive in Seoul between May 16 and 18, his first day being used to attend the opening ceremony of the Kapyong Battle Memorial Trail, which aims to honor Canada’s contribution during the Korean War.
