Tennis News: Canadian tennis player Bianca Andreescu started the 2023 Libema Open season in ‘s-Hertogenbosch by winning the first round.
However, the 2019 US Open champion couldn’t maintain her momentum and lost to Slovak tennis player Viktoria Hruncakova 6-7, 3-6 in the second round of the Libema Open.
The Slovak national previously competed under the name Kuzmova but later married and changed her surname. Despite this, she is still a very good tennis player and her victory over the Grand Slam champion proves it.
The game was quite a challenge for the world number 37 after generally struggling with consistency this season. Sometimes he can play very well, but he also makes mistakes when he loses rhythm.
The match at ‘s-Hertogenbosch was fairly even but the first set proved to be crucial. Both players had break point opportunities early in the set, but neither was able to convert their respective chances.
In the end, Andreescu finally got the break she needed to take a 5-3 lead, but she just couldn’t hold it. She created four set point chances at 5-4, but Hruncakova managed to save all four. She again created four more set point chances at 6-5, but again the Slovak national was able to salvage all of those chances before forcing a tiebreaker.
In the tiebreak, both players put on a strong comeback before Hruncakova secured an 8/6 victory and maintained her form in the second set. Meanwhile, Andreescu even lost concentration in the second set after playing less well than in the first set which eventually took the Slovak national tennis player to the Libema Open quarter-finals.

In other action, young Swiss tennis player Celine Naef was unstoppable after she managed to beat eighth seed Catherine McNally 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 and booked a match quarter-final against the first seed, Veronika Kudermetova. .
The other quarter-final will be occupied by the fourth seed, Ekaterina Alexandrova, who will face the American tennis player, Emina Bektas.
Alexandrova played a bit harder to topple Australian tennis player Kimberly Birrell 6-4, 7-6, while Bektas looked pretty good as he crushed compatriot Sachia Vickery 6-4, 6-4.
