Bus accident carrying a group of elderly people in Canada, 15 people killed

A semi-trailer truck and a bus carrying a group of elderly people collided, killing 15 people and injuring 10 others. This incident occurred in the province of Manitoba, CanadaThursday (15/6).

Canadian police said officers had received information about ‘mass casualties’ near the town of Carberry. First responders and Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) units arrived at the scene.

“All I can confirm at this time is that a bus carrying approximately 25 people collided at the intersection of Highways 1 and 5,” said Manitoba RCMP officer Rob Hill. AFP.

According to a report by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, several tarps were placed on the ground allegedly to cover the victims of the accident.

Meanwhile, a witness at the scene, Nirmesh Vadera, said several emergency vehicles and two helicopters were at the scene, which happened around noon.

“It was really surreal to see an accident, because I’ve never seen this kind of accident in a vehicle,” Vadera said.

Reacting to this incident, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that this accident was very tragic. He also sent his sincere condolences to the bereaved family members.

“I can’t imagine the pain that must be felt, but Canadians are here for you,” Trudeau said.

He added: “My heart is broken to hear the news of the tragic accident near Carberry. My deepest condolences to all those affected.”
