Rashid Sidek, a member of the 1992 Thomas Cup-winning squad, said the pair should study their potential opponents before flying to Copenhagen for the world championships next week.

“Players like Zii Jia and Tze Yong are already playing at the top level of badminton, as are their opponents. At this stage, anything is possible. My advice is to take the time they have, watch their draw and study their possible opponents,” he said. .

Earlier, former world number one Lee Chong Wei said it was very important for Zii Jia and Tze Yong to quickly adapt to the conditions on the pitch at the Royal Arena, the venue for this year’s World Championships.

It should be noted that no Malaysian player in the men’s singles has qualified for the semi-finals since the shock defeat of Chong Wei in the first round of the 2017 edition in Glasgow.

Zii Jia’s assistant coach Liew Daren was the last Malaysian player to reach the semi-finals, which he did at the 2018 World Championships in Nanjing, China.
