Government Canada will stop all arms shipments to Israel. This decision aroused the anger of Israel, which continues to wage war against the Hamas group in Gaza strip.
The besieged Palestinian territory now faces an increasingly serious humanitarian crisis. The months-long war has left hundreds of thousands of Gazans on the brink of starvation.
Canada, a key U.S. ally that provides billions of dollars in military aid to Israel each year, reduced its arms shipments to Israel to non-lethal equipment such as radios, after the attack. Hamas on October 7.
“The situation on the ground means we cannot export any military equipment,” said a Canadian government official speaking on condition of anonymity. AFPWednesday (20/3/2024).
Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly told the Toronto Star newspaper on Tuesday that Ottawa would stop future arms exports to Israel.
Israel condemned the move and Foreign Minister Israel Katz said it “undermines Israel's right to defend itself against Hamas.”
“History will judge the actions Canada right now with a bang,” he said in a post on social media platform X.
