Atambua Immigration deports Canadian citizens who violate residency limits

Kupang (ANTARA) – The Atambua Immigration Office in Belu Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, deported from Canada a foreign citizen (WNA) with the initials DD (65 years old) who violated the period of stay on the Indonesian territory.

“DD has an expired visa but still remains in Indonesian territory beyond the time limit or extended stay for three years,” Head of Class II Immigration Office, Atambua Immigration Checkpoint, KA Halim said on Thursday when confirmed from Kupang.

He explained that DD was previously arrested by officers of the Atambua Immigration Office at Mota'ain Border Post (PLBN), Belu Regency, when he was about to cross the area border towards Timor Leste.

During the examination process, he said, the person concerned was suspected of violating immigration rules by violating the period of stay in Indonesian territory, so he was taken away by the officers for a closer examination.

“Based on the results of the inspection by the intelligence team of the Atambua Immigration Office, the visa in question expired on April 10, 2020,” he said.

Halim explained that as a result of this violation, DD was subject to sanctions in the form of deportation to his home country, Canada, via Juanda Airport in Surabaya.

“Our agents took DD from Atambua to El Tari Kupang Airport and then continued to Juanda Airport,” he said.

Halim added that during the review process, DD received a strict warning not to repeat acts of violating Indonesian territorial law, as he would receive heavier penalties.
