Jakarta (ANTARA) – Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau congratulated President-elect Prabowo Subianto in a phone call he received on Wednesday in Jakarta, while also expressing his readiness to strengthen cooperation between the two countries, Canada and Indonesia.
During the telephone conversation, Prabowo and the Canadian Prime Minister emphasized their commitment to strengthening cooperation between the two countries, which includes, among others, the negotiation of the Canada-Indonesia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.
“It is a pleasure to congratulate you on your victory in the general elections. “I’m very happy,” Justin told Prabowo.
“Thank you sir. It would be an honor for me to receive a call directly from you. I have always been in awe of your father, you and your leadership. “I really look forward to working with you,” Prabowo said in response to the congratulations.
The father of the Canadian Prime Minister, Prabowo, refers to Pierre Trudeau, who was the 15th Prime Minister of Canada.
Prime Minister Trudeau continued to reveal that Indonesian leadership has significant significance both regionally and globally.
“I’m really looking forward to sitting down with you and meeting you. So we can start well. Indonesia’s leadership is important, not only in the region, but also in the world. “I want to study this so we can grow together,” Prime Minister Trudeau told Prabowo.
He believes Prabowo has many ideas to propose to strengthen the Indonesia-Canada partnership. Prime Minister Trudeau was also impressed that Prabowo remembered his father’s figure.
“You have a lot to offer, not least through your own experience. “I am very happy to meet people who remember my father,” Prime Minister Trudeau told Prabowo.
Some of the issues discussed by Prabowo and Prime Minister Trudeau during the conversation included the continued implementation of the Indo-Pacific strategy and opportunities to work together on mining governance.
Both also discussed the planned arrival of Team Canada’s trade mission to Indonesia in late 2024.
At the end of the conversation, Prime Minister Trudeau asked Prabowo to call him by a more familiar name, Justin. “Please just call me Justin from now on,” Prime Minister Trudeau told Prabowo.
“Thank you Justin. I feel very honored. Thank you very much. I look forward to meeting you,” Prabowo replied to the Canadian Prime Minister.
