Hamburg (dpa) – On their way to the FIBA Basketball World Cup in Asia, the German national team is testing an interesting opponent at the Super Cup in Hamburg.
Besides national coach Gordon Herbert’s squad on August 12 and 13, China, Canada and New Zealand will also take part in the traditional Hamburg tournament, the German Basketball Association has announced.
Germany will meet China in the semi-finals on Saturday August 12 (6:30 p.m.). Previously, the Canadians who employ many NBA players have played against New Zealand. The final will then take place on Sunday 13 August.
Thinking back to the bronze medal won at the European Championships on home soil last year, Herbert said: “We want to build on last year and take another step forward. All the players showed good preparation and sacrificed a lot.” “We are in the second year of a three-year cycle and the Super Cup is a very good test before the FIBA Basketball World Cup.”
The World Cup finals will take place in the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia from August 25 to September 10. After the Super Cup in Hamburg, there are still exciting friendlies against Greece (August 19) and World Cup favorites USA (August 20) in Abu Dhabi for the German national team.
